Overview of Services

Therapy in your PJs offers access to a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Florida with more than 16 years of experience in the mental health field from the comfort and safety of your own home. Prior to the onset of the CoronaVirus, I had already begun making the transition from face to face therapy to online therapy. I have previous experience utilizing telehealth as a successful means of accessing psychiatry services for patients within the Florida Correctional system. I was able to see first hand the benefits of having services readily available and how it made sense when there isn’t a way to get the patient to the services. I obviously wasn’t the first in my area to see the value, but I did see the value then and I certainly see it now.

Services offered include individual and couple’s counseling via secure video or phone sessions using a secure network in order to maintain your privacy. Emailing and texting are available but only as a means of communicating between sessions and scheduling, not as a primary means of offering therapy sessions. 

In individual therapy, the goal isn’t to just find a solution to the problem you are facing, but to identify the underlying causes of the challenges in your life. We will work together to develop goals you wish to accomplish for your life through counseling. We will help you grow beyond the negative patterns that have formed from your past and create newer, healthier patterns for positive growth which will impact life long change.

Clinical approaches include:

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy – combines aspects of Cognitive Behavioral approaches with mindfulness meditative practices to aid those who suffer from ongoing episodes of depression or for those who suffer from chronic unhappiness as well as stress and anxiety.

Solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT) – works to provide a more time focused, resource-oriented and goal-focused approach to therapy that helps individuals by working to enhance optimism and identification of positive outcomes available to the individual.

Schema-focused therapy – works to help people identify underlying thought and behavioral patterns which perpetuate mental health conditions.Schemas are viewed as a framework of thoughts which help us organize and interpret complex information.In many cases these constructs are the product of how our basic childhood needs were dealt with.

Interpersonal psychotherapy (IPT) – is geared to helping the individual deal with interpersonal issues that could cause them problems in terms of their mental health. The goal of with IPT is to help you understand how these problems, operating in their current life situation, lead him or her to become distressed.

Existential Therapy – is a therapeutic approach that places emphasis on our lives as a whole. It works to explore the difficulties that are faced in everyday life of the unique individual along with the choices that have shaped their lives. The goal is for the individual to become empowered to make decisions for their present as well as the future they wish to have.
